Ambassador Ferit Hoxha's Opinion about Rio +20

"Rio+20 Conference represents a one-in-a-generation occasion where World leaders gather to tackle the huge and diverse complex problems humanity is facing today.
Reliable reports and credible analysis including important scientific research have clearly confirmed the continued raising fears and concerns that human activity under current economic models is depleting and destroying the planet in the name of fast economic growth, of creating prosperity and happiness for all.
Yet, development is coming with an incredibly huge price. In the past two decades, carbon emissions have increased 40% and biodiversity loss has risen 30%. As the latest Global Environment Outlook published by the UN Environment Program highlights, the world failed to meet all but four out of 90 e economic goals, with resounding failures on climate change, fish stocks and desertification.
If there is no more doubt we all, rich and poor, big and small, North and South countries encounter the same problems, we have yet to agree on the way to address them and find the best solutions.
The need for change is great and urgent so that our present and the future are build on sound basis that maintain poverty alleviation with respect to sustainability.
Albania will be represented to this major world event with a delegation lead by the Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.
The Albanian delegation will join its voice to those partner countries in seeking to develop a strong green economy, respect for biodiversity, careful and wise water management including in hydro power generation, forestation and in general, an economic model that takes into account environmental protection."
